Wall vent cutouts

Honeywell Y8150A1009 Fresh Air Ventilation Control Hardwired

It bothers me that the honeywell motor controlled ducts are about as expensive (or more!) than an entire window air conditioning unit.  And I was planning to have two of them to allow cross and up vs down ventilation.  And you also have to add additional duct, duct cover on outside with screen, and small electric fan.

But there's another problem.  The metal duct itself must have a rather poor U-Factor, even when closed.  Even when closed there will be some leakage.  And even when closed (and this is worse) the metal ductwork will itself bring in heat (or loose heat).  Metal is a great conductor of heat.

It would be better if duct passing through wall was fiberglass rather than metal.  But fiberglass circular duct work seems to be rather hard to find.
