Once again today someone told me I must have grid electricity and A/C.
The plans currently do not include either, but openings in the brick siding for both to be added later.
The initial plan is to have one full-sized solar panel (280W or thereabouts) feeding a very large battery, with a sufficiently capable 15A+ inverter to run nearly anything for a brief duration. That could include air conditioner for a few hours (let alone fans and blender).
Today I've discovered several battery makers that make suitable batteries. For example, Rolls Surrette makes some really nice ones, for under $500. The cheapest really good inverter I've seen so far, however, runs about $1800.
